I once had a client…you know who you are, and we are closely related so I can’t be fired…I tried and tried to talk her into doing a gorgeous contrasting flange (like the images here) on her euro shams on her bed. She couldn’t get used to the word flange in itself. Something about the word – just the word made her grimace and give me a look as if to say, “how can you say that with a straight face?” She just wanted to play it safe (sort of) and omit the detail. The fabric on her pillow covers is absolutely amazingly gorgeous, so I ALMOST don’t miss the flange detail. But from time to time I wonder what the outcome would have been if I had been able to talk her into it. Maybe I should have made up a different word? Ah, the continued education of a designer I guess…
